Septimus Heap

The Septimus Heap series is about wizards, queens, and magical creatures.  The main characters are growing up in a time when their kingdom is in trouble and they discover that they may be the ones to save it!

Angie Sage writes very exciting stories.  She includes a large number of characters in every book and manages to tie them all together by the end.  The only bad thing about starting this series is that she hasn't finished writing it, which means you may have to wait and wait before you can read the next book.  I have one word of warning: Angie Sage likes to use fancy spelling for any magical word, which can be confusing.

Gregor the Overlander

Gregor is a regular boy who lives in New York City.  He falls through a hole with his little sister and ends up underground where creatures of the night like bats, rats, and cockroaches are as big as humans and can talk!  There is a magnificent city of humans as well and they decide that Gregor is the warrior of their prophecies.

These books are very exciting and Susan Collins does a great job of creating interesting characters and plot twists.  However, the main plot in the books is about a war between the humans and the rats, which can be a bit scary and sad.  I personally enjoy books that can make me feel many emotions.  I couldn't put them down.

Artemis Fowl

Did you know that magical creatures like elves and centaurs live in a society with advanced technology that exits underground?  Eoin Colfer writes extremely funny and exiting books mixing magic and the real world.  Artemis, a child genius who is also a criminal mastermind, discovers that the magical creatures exist.  He decides to catch a leprechaun in book one, which starts a series of crazy plans and adventures.

Eoin Colfer has written many entertaining books.  You can learn more about them on his website by clicking here.

P.S. Eoin is the Irish spelling for the name Owen.

Keys to the Kingdom

Garth Nix is one of my favorite authors because he is so creative.  This story is about a boy named Arthur who is randomly chosen by powerful magical people to inherit great power.  There are seven books in the series, one for each day of the week, in which Aurthur needs to face a different foe.  These books are full of adventure and exciting characters.  They can be a little bit scary, but there are many funny parts as well.
